During this National Volunteer Week, I’d like to thank the volunteer chaplains who share the weekly ministry at Columbia Lutheran Home.

Deacon Earl Grout can be found visiting residents at Columbia every Friday, as he has been doing for years. Earl brings a keen listening ear and offers wonderful prayers and rituals in the Episcopal tradition. He is beloved by staff and residents alike. Thanks Earl!

Leonard King was walking by Columbia Lutheran Home one day last fall when God “called him in” to participate in ministry here. His warm, friendly style and strong words of faith been well received by many folks among us. Thanks Leonard!

Pastor Will Cheung is a Lutheran pastor who has graduated from seminary and is waiting for a call to a church. Will comes to Columbia on Wednesdays right now, and offers his great listening and caring skills, honed during chaplaincy training at University of Washington Hospital. Thanks Will!

Emily Austin is training to be a deacon in the Episcopal church and has made Columbia Lutheran a place to gain chaplaincy experience. She’s a natural chaplain with a knack for reaching out and seeing a need. Residents have responded to Emily with trust and openness. Thanks Emily!

It’s such a gift to expand our ministry of caring through these special people. We appreciate you!
