Every day little things happen at Columbia that remind us–this place is full of life! Here are a few sights I noticed during this snowy month of February.

  1. Friendly greetings at the front desk.
  2. Icicles near the outside water fountain.
  3. Coffee-bearing family members and visitors.
  4. Cheers during bowling games.
  5. Rides for staff members stranded by the snow.
  6. Social workers and finance people untangling paperwork.
  7. Residents making Valentines cards to give to kids at Children’s Hospital.
  8. Local family members bringing homemade Valentines to Columbia.
  9. A memorial service to remember the lives of seven residents.
  10. Volunteers with friendly service dogs looking for a scratch on the head.

And of course there are the sights that I view everyday here, which make Columbia such a special place. Housekeeping staff cleaning floors, kitchen workers serving meals, laundry folks cleaning clothes, and amazing nurses and caregivers making sure that residents get what they need.

Working in a place where people respect and care for vulnerable people is a real privilege. Thanks for caring about our mission: We care for the whole person–body, mind, and spirit. AND we celebrate life!
