Every day little things happen at Columbia that remind us–this place is full of life! Here are a few sights I noticed during this snowy month of February.
- Friendly greetings at the front desk.
- Icicles near the outside water fountain.
- Coffee-bearing family members and visitors.
- Cheers during bowling games.
- Rides for staff members stranded by the snow.
- Social workers and finance people untangling paperwork.
- Residents making Valentines cards to give to kids at Children’s Hospital.
- Local family members bringing homemade Valentines to Columbia.
- A memorial service to remember the lives of seven residents.
- Volunteers with friendly service dogs looking for a scratch on the head.
And of course there are the sights that I view everyday here, which make Columbia such a special place. Housekeeping staff cleaning floors, kitchen workers serving meals, laundry folks cleaning clothes, and amazing nurses and caregivers making sure that residents get what they need.
Working in a place where people respect and care for vulnerable people is a real privilege. Thanks for caring about our mission: We care for the whole person–body, mind, and spirit. AND we celebrate life!
